Challenge

There are very few mentoring apps. We want FIVE to follow student’s progress over five years during high school. The platform needs to be dynamic, engaging, fun and easy to use.

Solution

The idea is to create an app for the student and for the mentor, where they can interact and learn at the same time. Also to develop the desktop apps for an operator, who will be uploading the content to the apps, and an OTG (On The Ground Person) who will serve as a physical connector to the community.

The Mentor

Laura has always loved mentoring young people and believes in the power of positive role models. Between her full-time job and personal life, she looks for flexible and meaningful ways to contribute to others’ growth.

How we win:

Make mentorship easy to fit into a busy schedule

Provide meaningful milestones and recognition

The Teen Explorer

Diego is curious, social, and a bit restless. He wants to discover his interests and be heard, but often loses motivation when learning feels disconnected from real life.

How we win:

Offer interactive, goal-oriented activities

Create a space where he feels seen and encouraged

The School Counselor

Mariana coordinates after-school programs and wants to integrate technology that genuinely supports her students. She values tools that help track engagement and create safe learning environments.

How we win:

Provide clear progress metrics and engagement reports

Build trust through privacy and safe communication features

User Flow

We need to give a very good first impression and a nice user experience, so we took a deep thought on how to work on these first experiences for both our mentors and mentees. We created users tasks flows that reflected all the steps an alternatives before we started wireframing the whole app flow.

Wireframes

Once we had a deeper idea on how the main flows would be, we started wireframing and thinking the all the first interactions.

Feedback

Every action needs a reaction.
We used a short animation to show when an emoji is selected.

Visibility

Users need to know what the options are

In every place where the user can do something, they have button for the main actions

Affordance

Users need to understand something by what it looks like

The camera icon is a known pattern for opening the camera

Consistency

The same action has to cause the same reaction, every time

All cards work the same way in all the app

Constraints

Limiting the range of interaction

We don’t want to confuse the user, and we just show possible action

Testing

Our potential users are from the US, so we needed to contact them and make the tests remote. The Challenge on this is having the users engaged with the test and understanding everything that’s happening. We did the tests with 6 users, giving them 10 tasks to complete, some took more time than others, but the idea was to understand their thoughts and test our designs and interactions. With this we could rethink a lot of things and iterate our designs, getting closer to the best MVP.
